Astrid Bastiaans - van Staveren

Employee in the spotlight

At Arcus, we strongly believe in the power of personal contact. This is the only way to build long-term relationships. We regularly share the story of one of our colleagues. This month we would like to introduce you to Astrid Bastiaans – van Staveren, Teamleader Sales Support.

Astrid has worked at Arcus for more than 32 years. It was her first job, but it still never bores her. The diversity of her job and the pleasant colleagues ensure that she still enjoys going to work every day.

“I never left”.

“Through a temp agency, I entered the Arcus Sales Support department 32 years ago. It was my first job and I never left. Back then, we didn’t have computers and still worked with a card index. Then when we sold something, we would manually write off the inventory. Certificates were also stored in binders. You can’t imagine that now, nowadays everything is automated.”

“I have seen many developments go by. The rise of the fax, the telephone exchange, the cell phone. In that respect, so much has changed, except for the atmosphere, which has still remained”.

What are you doing right now?

“I still work in the Sales Support department and together with Janneke and Jenny we form a team. Among other things, we answer the phone, receive visitors, book materials in and send certificates to customers. I am also responsible for our loyalty program. I organize a lot of events for our customers. Usually in a sporting environment such as the ABN AMRO Open tennis tournament, the Amstel Goldrace, a soccer match or a concert. Nowadays I often go along too. It’s nice to see clients I’ve talked to on the phone for so long. Some I have also known for more than 30 years”.

What do you get a kick out of?
“Last September I organized a family day. Together with other colleagues I spent quite some time on this and when you then hear from many colleagues that they had such a great time showing Arcus to their family and friends, that’s super fun of course.

But getting compliments from clients in return is also very nice! The other day we received a card for our good, fast service. This card is on our desk. We are proud of that. This also suits our personal and decisive service. Just like giving customers quick callbacks and emails. I think that is important”.

What’s left on your wish list?
“Actually, nothing. I like what I do. It’s so varied that I’ll keep going until I retire (Astrid laughs). I know Arcus will always be there for me when I need it. That’s when you know you’re in the right place”.
