We would like to introduce you to Joyce Wigmans, responsible within the CRSD team for creating a safe work environment and sustainable employment and vitality. With a passion for safety, Joyce ensures that everyone in the workplace is protected and can work in the best conditions and works to create a healthy, productive and long-lasting work experience for all of our employees. Safety is our priority! Together, we ensure a future-proof and vital work environment so employees can be the best version of themselves!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and tell us what your role on the CSRD team entails?
‘At Arcus Group, I fill the role of CHRO (Chief Human Resources Officer), in which I work daily to support our employees in their growth and development. My goal is to ensure that everyone at Arcus can become the best version of themselves, both physically and mentally. This means that we constantly work on vitality and personal growth, so that our colleagues not only develop professionally, but also feel good about themselves.’
‘In addition, I am a prevention officer, which makes me responsible for health and safety in the workplace. With this background, it was a logical step to take the topics of workplace safety and sustainable employment and vitality to my responsibility on the CSRD team. It is my mission to ensure that our employees not only perform well, but can continue to do so sustainably and with pleasure.’
How do we ensure that our work environment is safe for everyone?
‘At Arcus Group, we actively work to create a safe working environment, both physically and mentally. We do this, among other things, by organizing safety and prevention trainings and by properly training and informing employees. To this end, we regularly engage external experts to advise and guide us.’
‘We are also making important steps on the mental level. For example, we have made a vitality budget available and we are continuously looking into how we can support and stimulate our employees in the area of mental and physical health. We also conducted an employee satisfaction survey to find out how employees feel at work and within Arcus, so that we can continue to improve in this area.’
‘Together with Marco van Asch, I work as prevention officer to ensure a safe working environment. Within the CSRD project we want to further strengthen this approach and strive to really make a difference. It is great to see how we are developing in this. CSRD keeps us focused and motivates us to improve every day as individuals and as an organization.
Why do you think it’s important to invest in employees?
‘At Arcus, we believe that investing in employees is essential for creating a sustainable work environment. We want to be a real gamechanger in the area of sustainable employability and vitality. We do this by implementing initiatives focused on the well-being and development of our employees.’
‘By investing in development, education, training and health, we ensure that our employees continue to develop and remain motivated. This not only contributes to their satisfaction, but also increases their employability within Arcus. In addition, we are committed to sharing knowledge, both internally with our employees and externally with our clients.’
‘We strive to set an example within the Technical Wholesale industry by working to create a healthy and inclusive work environment. Our goal is for every employee to have the opportunity to be or become the best version of themselves.’
What programs or initiatives do we have in place to improve the vitality of our employees?
We attach great value to the vitality of our employees and have therefore set up various programs and initiatives to promote their well-being. For example, we have provided a vitality budget, which employees can use to invest in their health. We also offer access to a gym in Dordrecht and regularly organize sports events for the entire Arcus Group, so that everyone can stay active in a fun way.’
‘For those looking for extra guidance, we offer the opportunity to work with a personal trainer in Dordrecht or get support from coaches who specialize in mental health. We also ensure that employees always have access to both internal and external specialists who can support them with questions or challenges.’
‘Furthermore, we have initiatives, such as a bicycle plan, home working regulations and flexible working hours, so that employees can better balance their work and private lives. In this way, we encourage a healthy, vital work environment for everyone. Ultimately, I want to roll this out for all of Arcus Group.’
Why do you think it is important to invest in the health and well-being of our employees?
Everything is about satisfied and happy employees at Arcus, because that’s what we do it for. We believe that a good work-life balance is essential for the well-being of our employees. When people find that balance, it not only works positively for them personally, but also for their performance at work.’
‘As an employer, we also enjoy the benefits of this ourselves. After all, healthy and satisfied employees are more employable and motivated to contribute to the success of the organization.’
What do you want to achieve in the coming years in the areas of workplace safety, sustainable employment and vitality at Arcus Group?
‘In the coming years, I want Arcus Group to continue to develop and adapt to the changing demands and challenges of our time. It is essential for us not to stand still, but to constantly strive to improve. We want safety in the workplace, sustainable employment and vitality to not only be concepts that we comply with, but to set an example in this as an employer within our sector.’
‘This means that we remain committed to finding innovative and effective solutions to ensure the safety of our employees. In the area of sustainable employment, we want to ensure that employees remain optimally employable not only now, but also in the future, with an eye for personal growth and well-being. Vitality is a spearhead here: healthy, motivated employees are the key to success, and we want to continue to invest in that.’
‘In the future, we will therefore focus even more on these themes and continue to develop in order to further strengthen our position as a leader in safety, sustainability and vitality. Our ambition is to create a working environment in which everyone feels safe, healthy and supported, now and in the future.’
How do you see the future of sustainability within our company and what role do our customers and followers play in it?
‘The future of sustainability within Arcus Group is all about collaboration and dialogue. To make a real impact, it is essential that we remain in constant dialogue with both our clients and our employees. By adopting an open and transparent attitude and actively listening to the feedback we receive, we can take steps together to make the world a little better. You don’t achieve sustainability alone, it’s a joint process.’
‘Our customers play a crucial role in this. Our salespeople have ongoing conversations with them to understand their needs and expectations when it comes to sustainability. Our procurement team also works closely with suppliers to find and implement sustainable solutions. Internally, as HR manager, I continue to have conversations with our employees to ensure that they also have the tools and support to work and live more sustainably.’
‘Sustainability is not only about products and processes, it’s also about people. At Arcus, we therefore actively invest in the well-being and development of our employees. This is an aspect of sustainability to which we will continue to pay close attention in the future. In this way we are building a more sustainable future together, both for our organization and for society.’
